Spoon Theory…
✨SPOONS AND ENERGY✨
So if you’re living with a chronic health condition like hypothyroidism, chronic fatigue, post natal depletion, auto immune disorders, or a multitude of others, this might resonate with you.
Have you heard of the Spoon Theory?
We have a certain number of spoons of energy to use each day,
each person has a different number of spoons,
and different activities use a different amount of spoons for each individual…
With me so far?
One person might use a whole spoon in just showering, getting ready for the day and heading out… for another person that may only be 1/8 of a spoon. Emotional triggers use a lot of spoons too!
Now the general consensus is to live within your spoons, as pushing yourself just leads to further depletion… but what about those times when you HAVE to push yourself?? Like moving house, giving birth etc…
Then what do you do? Other people can’t do that for you…
Some things that help me (yes, I’m a person with limited spoons now!)
✨ be honest with yourself (and others) about your actual capabilities
✨ make a plan to work with that
✨ ask for support, super hard but essential
✨ sit/lie down whenever you can. If you can do an activity sitting or lying, do it that way!
✨ eat and supplement with the right things for your body. There’s no one size fits all approach, and chances are you know what heals and what ails you.
✨ yoga nidra
✨ doing whatever you need to do to regulate your nervous system as you’ll likely suffer more physically if your nervous system is pushed - massages, talk to friend, go to bed early, magnesium footbath etc
✨ listen, listen, listen - keep listening to your body and the messages it’s telling you
✨ laugh when you can. It’s sh*t but it just is
Hope some of these are helpful. Please reach out if you need support in this, or just someone to share to! I get it 🤍
